About The Area

About 55 kilometres southwest of Sydney’s Central Business District is the suburb of Ambarvale. The area and its land has an amazing history dating back 40,000 years, with the first European settlers coming to the area around 1816. The area of Ambarvale itself is rather quiet and residential, but a part of it contains one of the largest shopping centres known in the region: Macarthur Square!

The shopping centre was first opened in 1979, and sits next to a Macarthur Railway Station, making it so simple for shoppers who come from around the region to do their shopping at Macarthur Square. One of the most impressive facets of the shopping centre is Kellicar Lane, an outdoor entertainment and restaurant venue still within Macarthur Square. The venue overlooks the surrounding town and countryside, making it a great place to rest and enjoy the views.

As you walk through the shopping centre, you’ll see even more restaurants and cafes at Macarthur, but some of the best finds are the markets. Ambarvale Fish Market and Macarthur Square Fruit Market are a couple of the places you must visit. Or perhaps you want to look for clothing retailers like Cue or Country Road. Take as much time as you need to visit one of the largest shopping centres in the region, at the end, come back to Coco Cubano for a drink, followed by an evening show at the cinema.
